Founded by Nivedita Rai and Sourodip Ghosh, Karghewale is a service-oriented startup incubated at AIC NCore, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 1: No Poverty. Since its inception in 2020, Karghewale has been on a mission to uplift weavers and artisans across India, helping them not only to sustain their crafts but also to thrive in an increasingly competitive market. Through its incubation program, Karghewale has trained 150 ADEs in four states—Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Gujarat—resulting in an impressive increase in monthly incomes by INR 20,000 for participating artisans.

The Founders: Nivedita Rai and Sourodip Ghosh

Karghewale was co-founded by two visionaries who are deeply committed to rural development and artisan empowerment. Nivedita Rai, an Acumen Fellow, previously led Gudi Mudi Khadi as Executive Director within WomenWeave Charitable Trust, where she focused on strategy, future planning, and product development in handwoven textiles. With her experience in rural management and handwoven textiles, Nivedita has been instrumental in driving Karghewale's vision to empower artisans and sustain their crafts.

Sourodip Ghosh, the co-founder of Karghewale, also brings extensive experience in the artisan sector. He previously served as Executive Director of The Handloom School, where he facilitated artisan education and curriculum development. Sourodip's background in working with grassroots organizations like NBJK and PRADAN has further strengthened Karghewale's focus on community-based solutions and local entrepreneurship.

Together, Nivedita and Sourodip have created a platform that is more than just a business—it is a movement to uplift weavers and artisans from across the country, helping them gain the skills, knowledge, and market access they need to succeed in today's economy.
